Leigh Johnson has used her eye for the sensual, the obscure, the delicate and the strange to develop a visual language which is simultaneously quirky, sensitive, sexually charged, and possessed of a kind of animal instinct.

Her work’s humorous, off-beat charm is owing partly to her interactions with her surroundings and the objects therein, which she induces to articulate their own bizarre nature, and thus to make the joke on her behalf.

Through a kind of visual parataxis, she allows proximity of disparate subjects also to speak, gesturing at the tensions existing between themselves.
